Niamey is the capital of Niger. It is located on the banks of the Niger river, in the westernmost part of the country, and is the most populated city with 1,302,910 inhabitants in 2011.

Since November 24^th, 1988, the city’s 5 communes are organized as an urban community called ‘Urban Community of Niamey (UCN).
